We’re almost at the end of 2018 and the vast majority of the world is winding down for the holidays.
but if you’re like me, you’re already working towards achieving 2019’s goals, today.
this isn’t just because I live in the UAE where there’s no Christmas/Boxing Day holidays (it’s still very festive here though). It’s because SEO has taught me one thing: start as early as you can.
And this translates to the work I do for my clients.
But no need to panic if you’re planning on relaxing and taking it easy instead of being glued to the computer this holiday season.
You need to take care of your health and unwind, no matter what kind of year you’ve had in 2018.
So this is why I’ve got some pro tips for you to keep in mind for success in 2019.
These are tips I’m following for my own website so you know they’re tips you can follow too.
Supercharge your SEO in 2019 by doing these 3 amazing things:
1. Get your website load times in order.
Make sure it loads super quick on any connection, on any device.
SOLUTION: Use this free tool from Google to help you out: PageSpeed Insights
Page speed is a ranking signal when it comes to Google. But don’t just make your website load faster for rankings. Think about your customers. If your site is too slow, they’ll just bounce and go elsewhere. This is a huge reminder for myself first and foremost and you can bet I’m going to have a much faster loading website very soon.
2. Fix up your website content.
Chances are your page content is weak. It’s not enough or it’s not saying the right words. Whilst there’s no magic number for how much to write or how many times to use target keywords, I recommend that you focus on being succinct. This is good advice for most businesses but of course, some businesses will need to look at writing longer content. As long as you focus on being relevant, showcasing your expertise and providing value to the reader, your content will shine.
SOLUTION: Use the Hemingway editor to help you write better.
It can take a bit of getting used to but with more practice, you’ll be writing better copy for your website in no time.
And if you’re stuck for keyword ideas, use the auto suggest feature in Google or look at the related search queries at the bottom of a Google search results page. Loads of inspiration right there!
3. Find out how people use your website.
You may have a great level of data in Google Analytics but do you know how people use your website? How far down do they scroll on mobile vs desktop? Where are they clicking or tapping? Ever wanted to see recordings of people using your website?
SOLUTION: You can find out all of the above using a tool called Hotjar.
It’s got a free version (with limits) and there’s also a 2 week free trial on their paid plans. It’s super easy to install the tracking code and as long as your website receives traffic, you’ll be able to see all sorts of things within Hotjar.
The insights are priceless (or at least, worth the paid plans – trust me).
Follow the above and make sure that in 2019, you’ve got a fast loading website with great content that people to spend time on.
That’s how you’re going to make 2019 your best year yet.
Rock on.
