Google Analytics – gateway into your website performance

It still surprises me that many websites are being designed without Google Analytics enabled.

My SEO clients come on board at different stages in their website life.. pre-launch, newly launched, veterans…. and across the board, many of them have no idea of Google Analytics or they have it on their site but don’t know about it..

Google Analytics is a FREE stats package from Google.

You simply insert some code into the pages you wish to track (usually the template file for more complex sites, or every single page for smaller websites) and it displays statistical data in a more readable format than in your traditional web server stats package.

It gives you amazing insight into how visitors are interacting with your website and the detail you can go into is amazing.

You can get down to as detailed as the type of Internet connection your site visitors have and there’s even some data on rough geo locations of your visitors.

Web design isn’t just about making a website.

As a web designer, you should at least equip your client with the ability to understand how their site is performing.

You don’t need to be an Internet Marketing specialist either.

I consider this a vital part of the web design process as much as a builder showing the new home owner how to operate the pool.

So make sure your web designer sets up Google Analytics with your website.

You don’t have to go through it daily but at least you know if you ever need to see how your site is performing, it’s a very easy thing to do.
